We are searching for an experienced Assistant Professor Fire Technology/Fire Fighter Academy Coordinator at our Lompoc Valley Center facility.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Assistant Professor, Fire Technology/Fire Fighter Academy Coordinator

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty assignment in the Fire Technology program and includes reassigned time for program coordination (currently 60% instruction, 40% coordination based on a 37-hour workweek). The instructional assignment includes teaching a wide range of Fire Technology courses leading to certificates and degrees (refer to the college Catalog for current courses and certificates); holding office hours; and engaging in college service activities as defined in the collective bargaining agreement. This position includes coordination of the academic program.

  • January 2020, pending board approval.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Hiring salary range is $56,724 to $80,825 depending upon education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE
The governing board seeks an individual with the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment OR the equivalent per Board Policy 7211.

    *Any bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and two years of full-time professional experience in an occupation directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this assignment and/or master’s degree is preferred.
  2. Candidates must be a State Fire Training Registered or Certified Instructor and authorized by California State Fire Training to teach/proctor in all of the following categories: Fire Fighter 1 (2019), Fire Fighter 2 (2019), Fire Fighter 1 Skills Evaluator, Fire Fighter 1 Lead Evaluator, Fire Fighter 2 Skills Evaluator, Fire Fighter 2 Lead Evaluator
  3. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities.
  1. Knowledge of:
  • the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), Fire Fighter Academy Certification Training Standards.
  • evaluation and assessment methods.
  • the interrelationship of critical thinking, reading and writing.
  • diverse learning styles and teaching strategies.
  • curriculum development and design.
  • evaluation and assessment methods for student performance and program effectiveness.

 

  1. Demonstrated Qualifications/Abilities:
  • implement State Fire Training procedures inclusive of course delivery, instructor types, course management, reporting and record keeping.
  • establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the accrediting agency, State Fire Training
  • continued membership and participation in California Fire Tech Directors Association (CFTDA) to remain abreast of mandates and changes in Firefighter I and Firefighter II Certification processes.
  • develop and manage operational budgets to requisition and receive supplies and materials.
  • act as Site Safety Officer.
  • safely and effectively operate training props and equipment (to include Live Fire props and all others).
  • perform ongoing operations of training props and equipment as needed (to include Live Fire props and all others).
  • troubleshoot and resolve nonfunctioning or poorly functioning training props and equipment as needed (to include Live Fire props and all others).
  • prepare training areas and props for training exercises.
  • independently instruct fire technology courses in a wide variety of educational settings, including lecture, laboratory, and field environments.
  • establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, students and local public safety agencies.
  • effectively use contemporary technology to perform the duties and responsibilities for the instruction and coordination assignments.
  • support and assist students having a broad range of skills, motivations, and academic or vocational goals.
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • develop and evaluate learning outcomes and assessments
